Today I went for a run and ran 17.39 miles (I walked 1.63 miles in the end 'cause I was tired, dehydrated and started to see things). Don't worry folks, I only popped my top for about 4-5 miles.
It started off innocent enough: I went from my homestead through Adams Morgan. That was uneventful. I don't have much to say about that... oh wait, it was crowded! I powered through it though, because I'm a powerer.
But I digress.
I then made the mistake of going up 16th St. NW and not south, which was my original plan. If I had planed for it, I wouldn't have ended up weeping like a child. I also need to buy one of those camel-pack thingys.
What was I talking about? Oh yeah: PAIN.
As I went up 16th St., I was lightning-struck by all the churches! Lutherans, Baptists, et al. (I had to google "Lutheran" to make sure I spelled it right and found this tidbit on Wikipedia:
In his later years, Luther became strongly antisemitic, writing that Jewish homes should be destroyed, their synagogues burned, money confiscated and liberty curtailed. These statements have contributed to his controversial status.Hey, that's not nice!
There is a church on every block from say just north of wherever I was to Military Road NW. I don't really have anything funny to say about that; you just don't notice that when you're in your car.
Ok, this is dragging on. The short of it is that I ended up in Silver Spring, MD and had to go through Rock Creek Park to get home. I ditched the park near Porter Road and walked home. I was ubertired, yah!
But why do it? you might ask.
Training for a marathon aside—and even the basic points of personal health, etc.—it's fun! Although I would have preferred to have planned my trip beforehand, there is something to be said about learning things about the place you've lived in for almost nine years.
I also learned I want to buy one of those camel-packs. Hey, feel free to donate money to my camel-pack fund!
PS: Happy Mother's Day! Be sure to do something nice. Or your mother will disown you.
Until next time, America!
